Sharm El Sheikh is choosing
sustainable energy solutions.

With the sun beaming over Sharm El Sheikh year round, the city has an abundant resource that it can utilize to shift away from nonrenewable energy sources, thus reducing its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

Recognizing the value of this resource, the city has chosen to build up its solar energy capacity and has taken solid action to that end. So far, the total capacity of solar power stations has exceeded 50 MW, which is equivalent to 17.5% of the total energy demand of the city in 2021. Moreover, Sharm El Sheikh airport in addition numerous public venues and spaces are partially powered by solar energy.

Sharm El Sheikh has been committed to the green transformation, having achieved major strides in ensuring sustainable accommodation, transportation, energy, waste and water management, tourism operations, and biodiversity conservation.
